'Who Let The Dogs Out?' - Not the PB100 with a Sarantel GPS Antenna!

Calling All Pet Owners: New PB100, with Sarantel's GPS Antenna Enables Smart Pet Tracking

Sarantel, a leading innovator in the design and manufacture of miniature antennas for portable and mobile wireless devices, announces today that Locatis is using Sarantel's GeoHelix GPS antenna in its new PB100 pet tracking device. The Sarantel antenna ensures that the PB100 has the best possible GPS reception across all environments, no matter what 'state of play' your pet is in.

The PB100 is a lightweight, water-resistant GPS/GSM device that is attached to a dog's collar to help owners keep track of their pet. If a pet owner loses sight of their dog and wants to know its location, they send an SMS text asking, "Where is my dog?" to the Locatis command centre, which connects to the PB100 and initialises a search. The PB100 estimates the pooch's position and sends the address immediately as SMS text over the GSM network to the command centre and then on to the pet owner. Pet owners can also request information on the pooch's position via the Internet or by calling the Locatis command centre directly.

Locatis embedded Sarantel's high performance miniature GPS antenna into the PB100 to ensure that it has reliable and predictable reception in all environments from urban canyons to some wooded areas - perhaps even down the occasional mole hole!

Signal absorbing bodies such as human and animal tissue can adversely affect GPS reception. Locatis chose the Sarantel antenna for its small size, exceptional beamwidth and extremely low 'near field', which allows it to work within millimetres of signal absorbing bodies without deteriorating performance.

Julien Vernerey, Locatis's Technical Director says: "We needed an antenna that could withstand the vigorous and unpredictable movements of a frisky dog! No other competitors offered anything that came close to Sarantel's reception capability."

David Wither, Sarantel CEO says: "Now that the technology has improved and prices are going down, consumers (and their dogs) are salivating for new 'asset tracking' applications based on GPS/GSM technology. Locatis's pet tracker, which depends upon flawless reception in a wide variety of circumstances, really demonstrates the technical excellence of our GPS antenna."

The PB100 will be available start of September 2005 and can be pre-ordered at http://www.locatis.ch.
